Cranston, RI (November 11, 2024) – Happy Veterans Day! Today, Gannon & Scott is proud to release a testimonial video for HIRE Vets featuring veterans Chris Jones, G&S President and Andrew McManus, G&S Vice President of Operations and former Sergeant and Lieutenant Colonel. Chris and Andrew both served in the RI National Guard.
Gannon & Scott has upheld specific veteran recruitment and retention criteria, earning the HIRE Vets Medallion Award (Gold Award for Small Businesses) by the Department of Labor for six consecutive years. Earlier this year, PBN recognized the commendable practices and placed Gannon & Scott in their Veterans in the Workforce feature.
This testimonial video highlights what initially inspired Gannon & Scott’s focus on the hiring of veterans. Chris shares that it started when the company was looking for candidates at Gannon & Scott’s Phoenix, AZ facility. As a veteran always interested in supporting other veterans, he researched resources that help veterans transition from the military into the private sector. Upon coming across HIRE Vets, Chris remarks, “I looked at the criteria of the award and realized that we essentially already qualify. We registered for it, and we have been happy to receive the award ever since."
Andrew stated that the award is something that “You can display proudly...It’s a nice tie-in to say that Gannon & Scott is committed to the workforce and all of us here.” Chris and Andrew mentioned that there are a lot of skills and qualities that veterans tend to have such as being highly resilient and having a “Can Do” attitude that benefits a company’s culture like Gannon & Scott’s. Veterans have always been part of a team and something bigger. They have navigated challenges through problem-solving — these are skills that are also applied here.
